Yes, all students are required to sign one document that contains a Waiver of Liability  and a Consent to Record check-mark before beginning any program. This only needs to be signed once and is considered a perpetual agreement with the Bynum Tennis organization. Click here to complete waiver form

As a parent, you can start testing hand-eye coordination with your child as early as 4 years old, simply by tossing the ball to them. We recommend that you interact with your child first using just a tennis ball on a court. Then, progress to letting them handle a racket to hit the ball with a simple bounce and then move further away from them on a daily/weekly basis to see if they can hit the ball. The goal is simply to hit the ball, not to hit over a net in the first few months.

Racket sizes for youth vary from 21" to 27" (full length) which are calibrated for height and weight. Please get the smallest racket possible initially so that your child gets used to handling this without extra weight. As they grow, the tennis racket will grow. Consult with your coaching professional.

There are three types of balls for youth play prior to the 'faster bounce' standard tennis ball:

  • RED: for children up to age 7; a larger ball that has less air allowing better control for a beginning player when coaches are trying to develop technique
  • ORANGE: a standard size ball with less air and typically played on a smaller tennis court for an early tournament player
  • GREEN: a standard size ball with more air (but still less than a yellow ball) and typically allows more control for an early tournament player on a standard court

We believe that ALL students can achieve growth in their game with a curriculum that focuses on the fundamentals:

  • Stage 1: basic muscle memory and fundamental footwork
  • Stage 2: focused practices with focus on serves, strokes and strategy
  • Stage 3: match play
